Modern Jiama 摩登甲马

Inspired by the traditional Jiama (甲马) religious woodblock prints of Dali, Yunnan, this illustration series reimagines the deities that contemporary people might worship today — from screen printing and working late into the night, to even the most mundane acts such as defecation. Blending humour, ritual, and everyday life, the works reflect on modern habits, labour, and desires through the visual language of folk spirituality. Created in Procreate.
