贯钱 Guanqian coin is a classic design of ancient Chinese copper coins, with a square shaped hole in the centre. This allows people to easily carry the coins on a piece of string. Today this is a widely recognized symbol of wealth.  The double coin pattern carries a wish of abundant wealth.

Paper cutting is a traditional craft that first appeared in China over a 1000 years ago.  It is commonly used for decorative purposes in praying and worshipping rituals as well as festivals.  It’s also used for embroidery.  Common themes include deity, animals, flowers, zodiacs and portraits. In modern China, we can often see it depicting contemporary events too.

While in the process of silk screen printing, a creative spark struck, and I incorporated the magic of paper-cutting. I used paper-cutting as an indirect template, akin to printing a "negative." This not only perfectly showcases the contours of paper-cutting but also captures the unique warmth brought by the rough edges of the paper. It's safe to say that I've added a new twist to silk screen printing!
